Four reasons super teams are ruining the NBA

If you can learn something from the current NBA off-season, it’s that the 2017-18 season could be the era of “super teams.” Last year, the only super team we can call were the Cavs and the Warriors. Now, we have these two teams and the Thunder and Rockets.

Here are reasons super teams are ruining the NBA: 

1. Super teams make small market smaller 

You make a super team by buying three or more superstars. Now, teams that can afford this much are those with a higher salary cap. Teams like Charlotte, Indiana, Milwaukee, and Memphis won’t make enough money because they won’t gain as many sales because of their smaller markets, making them more irrelevant in the future. 

2. It isn’t fun to watch anymore 

With the current format of NBA teams, where you see uber-powerful teams versus a bunch of “scrubs,” it becomes less and less exciting to watch the regular season games. You wouldn’t spend your time watching the Warriors go against the 76ers. So, people just wait for the Finals. 

3. Players are taking the easy way out 

Kevin Durant’s decision to take the easy way out (any way you see it, he really did take the easy way out), started a trend among players to just team up to make the most dominant team, instead of working hard to improve individually, making the league as a whole look weak.

Paul George to the Warriors: Another ridiculous super team idea

So the latest buzz is that Paul George might be on his way to Golden State. Just when we thought the super team culture in the NBA couldn’t get any worse, they’re at it again.

The Warriors are just fresh off a championship with new arrival Kevin Durant in the fold, making them the team to beat next year, and most likely, in the next few years to come. 

They were already formidable with Curry and Thompson. The Warriors were a very balanced team, who had the workings of an organic success with what assets they had in their line-up. They grew from the draft, with only a few trades to bolster their presence as a playoff team. 

They also had the perfect role player in Draymond Green and an able veteran in Andre Iguodala.

When Durant came in, that was the end of an era for Golden State. They took the route of the super team, wherein it seems that the main formula suggests that an overkill in talent is the only way to win crowns. 

Not a few people lost respect for the Warriors because of this move. Now the fans are staring at the possibility of Paul George entering the Dubs. 

Just when we thought that it couldn’t get any worse with Durant’s entry, here goes Golden State with another super move, one that’s sure to leave heads shaking. 

It’s getting increasingly disinteresting and downright distasteful.
